"POLAROIDS..."

Captured by Andrew Dosunmu.

Raised and educated in Nigeria and now based in New York, Andrew started his career as a design assistant at the fashion house of Yves Saint Laurent. He later moved over to photography, film-making and creative direction. His visual language focuses on the humanity and beauty of global cultures, an aesthetic he stays true to whether he’s shooting a fashion piece or a portrait, an ad campaign or a documentary story. Andrew’s images have been featured internationally in i-D, Clam Magazine, The FADER, Interview and Big Magazine, among others.

Besides a flourishing career in photography, Andrew is also active in the film and television worlds. He gained prominence in the US after directing music videos for acclaimed recording artists Tracey Chapman, Isaac Hayes, Wyclef Jean, and Kelis.

In 2010, in the lead up to the first ever World Cup in Africa, Andrew produced and directed the documentary ‘The African Game’, in which he explores the game of football and its relationship with African culture in all it’s diversity. In 2011 he directed the film ‘Restless City,’ which premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. ‘Restless City’ tells the story of an African immigrant surviving in the outskirts of New York, where life is a hustle, music is his passion and falling in love is his greatest risk.

Dosunmu’s most recent film, ‘Mother of George’, premiered with critical acclaim at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and was the Closing Night selection for Maryland Film Festival 2013. Andrew was honoured further for Mother of George at the 2014 Africa International Film Festival, where he was awarded Best Director. His next project will be a biopic of Fela Kuti, which is currently in production.

Dosunmu continues to work in both mediums. The images, still or moving, speak for themselves – East Photographic. Presented here, are some polaroids taken over the years, some published some, seen for the first time; enjoy.
